What exactly is Twitter Mutuality? Glad you asked, Twitter mutuality is simply when you follow someone on Twitter and the follow you back. So for example if you have 1000 followers, and 750 of them are following you back, then your Twitter mutuality percentage is 75%.

I feel it’s important to support Twitter mutuality. Following those that follow you shows you are willing to be social with them, and listen to what they have to say. There are several tools out there that help you track your mutuality on Twitter, and also help you unfollow anyone that isn’t following you back.

My personal favorite Twitter mutuality tool is Huitter. Along with Huitter, you have Tweepular, Friend or Follow, Your Twitter Karma, Untweeps, Flash Tweet & Buzzom. I am going to give you a short tutorial on using Huitter.com. If you want I can also provide tutorials for the other tools, but like I said, Huitter is my favorite, and gets the job done very fast and efficiently.

When you arrive at Huitter.com, you are going to want to click the “Mutuality” link:

huitter_mutualityOnce you have clicked the Mutuality link, you will be taken to a page where you are given an option to perform your mutuality manually or automatically. Click on the manual button.

huitter_click_manualNext you will be asked to login using your Twitter credentials. Go ahead and enter them now. It’s safe I do this once every 3 days, to keep my follow to unfollow ratio low, and my Twitter mutuality high. Now you are taken to a screen where you have a few options before you continue, and bulk unfollow anyone not following you back. Before you proceed, you need to make a decision. Are there any Twitter users that you wish to continue to follow even though they are not following you back? These may be some gurus in your niche or someone with some authority in your niche. This isn’t as important now that Twitter has the Twitter List feature. Read How to Create a Twitter List, for more information about using the list feature with Twitter.

exclude_listCheck the first bubble that says “Unfollow all who do not follow you back”, and click the “Go” button. Thats it, your done. Let Huitter work it’s magic. The time it takes depends on your Twitter mutuality ratio. The more people that aren’t following you back the longer it will take. A good schedule to follow if you are over 10,000 followers, and adding 1,000 new followers everyday is to unfollow every 3 days. Be sure not to bulk follow people on the days you use Huitter, or any other Twitter mutuality tool.

Did you find this Huitter tutorial useful? Would you like me to write tutorials on the other Twitter mutuality tools? If so let me know in the comments section below.

Getting Viral Traffic with Twitter

Using Twitter to drive traffic is one of the best uses for Twitter. Twitter to me is a huge marketing channel, whether I am marketing an affiliate product, my own product or my blog. I use Twitter to get thousands of hits each and every month. There are several ways of using Twitter to get traffic, there is a little trick to actually going viral with your tweets.

It’s easy to get a few hundred clicks per day using Twitter, but how do you get people to actually retweet your stuff and take action? That is the real key to Twitter. If you want people to retweet your stuff you there are a few things you need to do make this happen:

  1. Be socialable – Respond to people that @reply or DM you on Twitter
  2. Tweet Interesting Links – Not all of your tweets will get retweeted. Out of the 20 or more tweets I send everyday, only 1 or 2 will go somewhat viral. Make sure your tweets are niche related and are interesting to your target market.
  3. Tweet Niche Related Quotes – I have heard good and bad about tweeting quotes. I have personally had several quotes get retweeted.
  4. Tweet Videos – Videos go viral really quick on Twitter. If you are into making your own videos, then be sure and tweet a link to it a couple of times the day the video is published.

Don’t expect all your tweets to get retweeted and go viral. Don’t even expect all of your “best” tweets to go viral. Your followers will pick and choose which one of your tweets they will retweet to their followers. Don’s get discouraged if you don’t get retweeted everyday. Just be sure to continue to tweet interesting news, blog posts and videos, and some of your tweets will take off.

This is a really cool tool that I have used in the past, and demonstrate below. It allows you to put a type of “call to action” on your site, and allows the people that land on that page to send a tweet to their followers on your behalf. Here is how the tool looks on your site. Fill in the box with your Twitter credentials, hit tweet, and you will be taken to a page where you can get your hands on this very cool twitter tool. Your twitter username and password will not be stored, it is 100% safe. So go ahead, send a tweet and get your hands on the viral twitter secret software!

How to Follow More People on Twitter Faster

follow_fasterOnce you get into Twitter a bit, and you start following the schedule I recommend in this post about getting past 2000 followers, you will find that it seems to be a little time consuming with finding twitter users to follow, opening up different pages, tabs, so on and so forth. So today I am gonna share with you my “secret” weapon for accomplishing this much faster. I am able to follow around 1000 people new people per day in under 10 minutes using this little tool.

This free tool is called “session manager” and is for firefox. Download session manager here.  Once you have it downloaded and installed in Firefox, follow the steps below to set it up to follow more people faster than normal. This technique is a manual technique, not automatic, that is why it takes about 10 minutes to accomplish.

Step 1: You will need a list of twitter users that share a common niche with you. For example, I closely follow Copyblogger, Problogger, ChrisBrogan, DevonBrown and Mashable. All of those people are involved in blogging, home business success and social media. So it’s safe to say that the people that follow them would be interested in what I tweet and blog about also. So your first task is to go find at least 10 people but the more the better, that have a twitter account and are in your niche. One really simple way to do this is to go to Amazon.com and look for books in your niche, fine the authors on Twitter and bam you have your list.

Step 2: Now you want to open each person’s twitter account in a different tab, using firefox. I will usually stick to opening around 10 tabs at a time, per session. Once you have all of their twitter profiles loaded, you will want to go through all of them and click on “followers”. Once you are done with this step, you should have 10 tabs open from 10 different twitter accounts from people in your niche, and all tabs should be displaying the last 20 people who followed each of these twitter users.

Step 3: Once you have your ten tabs, each with a different users twitter account loaded with their first page of followers. You want to click tools at the top of the page, scroll down to session manager, then click “save session”. Here you will be given the opportunity to name your session what ever you want.

That’s it for setting up your session. You can set up as many sessions as you like. When you are ready to start adding followers, follow these steps:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click Tools
  3. Scroll to Session Manager
  4. In the pop out menu scroll down to the session you wish to load
  5. Now simply follow everyone on the first tab, second tab, simply continue until you have followed everyone that is on the first page of followers in each tab.

That’s it, sounds simple enough, right? Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment. If you think a video tutorial would be better rather than reading it through a post let me know, and I will add a video to this post.

Sharing Your Photos on Twitter

twitpicBeing successful on Twitter means being socialable. The more social you are the more successful you can be. One great way to show that you are social, is to share life events with your followers. Today we discuss sharing photos on Twitter. You don’t need to share all your life events, or even tons of pictures.

A good thing to do is to share a photo or two every couple of days. These photos can be of you visiting different places, something funny you saw, something interesting, or just something you feel the need to share with your followers. The photos do not, and really should not be “professional” photos, they need to be “real”. Don’t try to dress them up in any way, just take them and share them.

There are several services to help you upload your pics to Twitter. The most popular is TwitPic. TwitPic is by far one of the easiest sites to upload your pictures to Twitter. You simply go to TwitPic.com, sign in using your Twitter credentials. Once you have set up an account with them, you can start uploading pictures. You can use your smartphone, their website, their API and even some Twitter clients now have the capability of uploading pics through TwitPic.

When you upload a pic, you can add a message to go with it. This message will be tweeted to your followers, and it will include a link to your picture. Once your followers click the link they will be taken directly to your new picture, and also be given the opportunity to view any other pictures you have uploaded in the past.

So now it’s time to get out there and start taking pictures. Be sure to take some interesting pictures for your followers, they will appreciate it. Doing this will get them to interact with you more, which will allow you to build the relationship you need to start marketing to them. If you found this post interesting then give it a retweet, so your followers can use it too.

Using Hootsuite to Manage Your Time on Twitter

hootsuite_logoOnce you start using Twitter you will find that it becomes very easy to loose track of time. When I first started using Twitter, I would sit down and log in, and before I knew it, I had spent over 2 hours reading and responding to tweets. Well my wife and kids got a little upset that I was spending so much time on the computer, without really accomplishing anything, other than reading.

So that got me looking for some tools that would allow me to better manage my time spent on Twitter. After much research, trial and testing, I finally found a tool that allows me to do a number of things that really cuts down the time I spend on Twitter.

That tool is Hootsuite. Here is what Hootsuite has to offer:

  • Stat Tracking – Using ow.ly links from Hootsuite, they will track the number of clicks to your links
  • Twitter Lists – You can import your twitter lists
  • You can manage multiple Twitter accounts
  • Schedule tweets – A huge time saver
  • You can embed your columns on your sites – very cool feature
  • Monitor Your Brand
  • You can connect to your other networks like Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Take it mobile on your iPhone

There is a lot of stuff that Hootsuite does, and you may or may not need all the features. I do not use all the features, but I do partake in most of them. Here is exactly how I have my Hootsuite dashboard set up, so that I don’t spend a ton of time sending, reading and replying to Tweets.

I have my dashboard set up to display 4 columns.

  1. My first column is my Twitter feed, all the tweets that I have personally sent.
  2. Second column are all the tweets that mention me (@scott_hughes691)
  3. Third column is any pending tweets, these would be tweets that I have scheduled to tweet sometime later the same day.
  4. My fourth column is a list of Twitter users I follow closely. Some are people while others are blogs. These will be those twitter accounts that I find most interesting and will retweet the most from.

Mine is set up so that I am the most efficient on Twitter. I can log in, schedule a few tweets, respond to any @replies I need too, and see what my favorite Twitter users are up to. Doing all this from one screen is really helpful and time saving. I hope this helps you manage your Twitter time a little easier. Oh I should probably mention Hootsuite is a free tool, no need to pay for anything.

Leave me a comment and tell me what you think of Hootsuite or if you have used a different tool for managing your time on Twitter.

With the number of applications coming out allowing you to  share video on Twitter I thought I would narrow it down to the top 5 to help you filter through all the search results.

There is a lot of competition fighting to gain users for their Twitter to video application. I am going to list for you the top 5 tools for sharing video on Twitter. Some of these services will allow you to share not only video but pictures too, and some even live video.

None of these services is as huge as twitpic, but they are growing in popularity. They are doing their best to get your attention, and get you to use their service to upload your content to Twitter. That being said here are your top 5 video sharing tools for Twitter.

1. Vidly

Vidly

Vidly is formerly known as TwitVid. It is by far one of the easiest sites to use. The homepage shows you trending topics and their latest blog posts. They also allow you to record video from their site and even upload videos to twitter from your phone. Vidly is very quickly becoming the TwitPic for videos on Twitter.

2. Twiddeo

Twiddeo

Twiddeo is another very easy site to use. You simply log in using your Twitter credentials, choose a file and click upload. You can upload using the web, a camera phone or your webcam.  I know the site is not really visually appealing, but don’t judge by the home page. Log in and give it a try. If you happen to be using firefox, then using the Twiddeo Grease Monkey script, videos will load in your Twitter timeline.

3.  Twitc

TwitC

Twitc allows you to upload videos, pictures and a bunch of other types of files to Twitter. Use Twitc to organize, search, view, comment, share, embed, batch download, collect, favorite, rate uploads, view timelines and profiles, post links to or embed files, and send updates to your profile on Twitter. There is a little more work involved before you can upload a video including creating an album, giving it a name, etc.

4. Twit Lens

TwitLens

Twit Lens is another one of those easy to use video to Twitter sites, just login using your twitter credentials and you are ready to start uploading. It is one of the few sites that uses the OAuth for a secure login. Twit lens also allows you to upload still pictures, so it serves a dual purpose. It will also allow you to attach tags to your photos to help you track your photos.

5. TweetTube

TweetTube

Tweet Tube is one of my favorites. It allows you to use webcam videos, share photos, share youtube videos  and share website urls. It’s a very versatile site. The down side to this site is the length of the videos you can share. But you can upload straight from your phone, share through email and share your links and bookmarks, so its worth a look when looking to upload videos to Twitter.

Thats it for my list of the top 5 tools for sharing video on Twitter. Check them out and leave a comment on your favorite. If you happen to use a different tool for sharing videos on Twitter then feel free to leave them in the comment section below.

Twitter_Tools

When you start using twitter as just a communication tool you find that it is pretty easy to keep up with everything. But once you decided to use it to build your business and also as a marketing tool, you will find that keeping up with all your followers, adding additional followers and trying to keep everyone interested becomes very difficult.

The great thing is there are tons of tools and applications that have been developed to help make using twitter to build your brand or your business so much easier. Today we talk about the different tools that I have found to be really useful in keeping my twitter business together.

  • Hootsuite – This is a really cool tool that allows you to organize your tweets and your followers. You can also use it to schedule tweets for when you are away from your computer. You can create groups of followers to closely monitor their tweets. It will track your url clicks, and show you your stats on all the clicks to your links. Hootsuite will also allow you to monitor different twitter accounts, if you happen to have more than 1. The best part is it’s 100% free!
  • Tweepular.com – Tweepular allows you to check the mutuality of your followers. Meaning you can find out who isn’t following you back, or people who are following you but you are not following back. It will also allow you to unfollow people in bulk. It  is a good idea to unfollow anyone who isn’t following you back, unless you find their tweets interesting and useful.
  • Twitpic – It’s a good idea to get personal with your followers and a good way to accomplish this is to share pictures with them. Using twitpic will allow you to instantly share photos with your followers, it will create a link in your tweet that leads them to the photo.
  • Vidly.com – Vidly is basically the same as twitpic except it allows you to share videos. Videos are better than photos, and allows you to really get connected with your followers. Take some short videos that share tips or information in your niche or industry and share them using Vidly. Your followers will love this and most likely share it with their followers, bringing more traffic to you.
  • Twitterholic.com – Twitterholic is a great place to check your twitter stats. From how many tweets you’ve done per day, how fast your twitter list is growing, how well you rank in your area, how you rank as it compares to other twitter users, and a lot more.

I use these twitter tools almost daily to help keep track of my twitter profile, stats and scheduling tweets. If you want to learn how to use twitter properly and start earning $5,000 per month or more using Twitter then check out this Free Twitter Training Webinar. Now go and sign up for those tools listed above then register for the free training webinar and watch as you learn to use twitter to earn an income.
